NEWSLETTER FOR OCTOBER 27, 2004 VOCATIONAL SERVICE MONTH –“Vocational
service is a hallmark of our organzation…from the beginning Rotarians
have advocated fair business practices and high ethical standards.” President Estess in The Rotarian,
Oct. 04 Present:
Pres. Walter, Coulter, Schmitz, Nuboer, Summers, Mitchell,
Sladen’s, Rego, Bilger, Beatrice and her brother ‘Raymond’. Meeting
highlights Bart
again had the right ticket but couldn’t find the king of heart’s wife.
The HB/SB featured sad dog and teeth stories. Beatrice is enjoying her
brother and sister and we had the pleasure of meeting ‘Raymond’.
Thanks for sharing, Beatrice. W.O.W.:
Being a bear is a good thing…but about guys being happier people, I
wonder… The
colorful Mr. Coulter read “What is a Veteran” which elicited much
discussion about personal experiences in the military and life. It was
interesting so hear so much diversity in such a small group of Scituans. President
Walter told us about a concert with the Hingham Symphony in support of
Paul Welch, District Governor Elect (05-06). A District Governor’s costs
are not small – nearly $40,000. This is a personal expense, not one that
Rotary International takes on. The way that RI and RF are able to use
every dollar collected for projects for those projects is because of the
generosity of Rotarians including the responsibility for their own
expenses. We have been known to quibble over $25 for a seminar but our
district leaders are paying out of pocket for everything connected with
their works. A club assumes some responsibility to help its member after
they recommend them for a higher level position. The Weymouth Club will do
what they can – they are asking that we support this concert. As Paul is
a friend of our club, having served for 5 or so years as our assist
governor, we should support this concert or the board should vote to
contribute money to his expenses. We
need new members or we shall disappear…I am feeling a bit drained, much
too responsible and totally ineffective…but enough about me. What about
you? Yours
