CLUB NEWSLETTER for March 2, 2005

Present: Pres. Walter, Bart, Janet, Judy, Alden, Dietrich, Donn & Carol, Karen Kelley and her husband, Joe, Bill Coulter, Ben, and visiting Rotarian Burridge.

Absent: We miss Jack and Beatrice, Suzanne and Loic. Loic is traveling in China .

The Meeting:     We used the meeting time for a modified BOD meeting.

Club Service: Membership remains our outstanding problem. We will arrange a lunch meeting to entice a few potentials who claim to want a lunch meeting. The 3rd Wednesday of the month was proposed so that the evening would then be free to join in the South Shore Council meetings in Quincy each month. (We are hoping that Ben would be interested in taking on that role for our club.) Meantime, we have realized that the District Governor comes this month on the 3rd week so will aim for the first lunch in April. Dietrich and Janet will coordinate this event. After PETS and the Leadership Institute we will decide if we want an outside speaker and exactly what we want to communicate. The prospective Rotarians in mind are: Bob Walgreen, Donna Nuzzo-Mueller, Mark Mason, Pat Jacquart, Robert Price, George , Chris Truax, Bob & Sandi Schipul, Claudia Oliver, Helyn and Jim Bailey, Pam Giovannini, Jim (Marketplace), Jed FitzGerald’s friend at Jack Conway, Steve Warner,  Mark (FiberTech), and we really need a lawyer and a CPA! We continue to need representation from the Police and Fire Dept. Dietrich also wants to include a selection from our advertisers. A letter has been drafted to deliver to them.

Financial: Payment should be made from the Foundation to the District’s Pure Water project ($1000) and the James Library ($300). It was agreed that we need to do something for Literacy in Scituate via the schools and libraries. Dietrich will cover that in meeting with Donna of SHS and Janet will be visiting the other schools about Legs N Wheels. We need a Treasurer’s report to keep club monies in the black.

Vocational Service: We are striving for a relationship with SHS. Karen is to see about getting an article in the Mariner about Ambassadorial Scholarships available.

Community Service: looking for a volunteer to organize the Senior Dinner.

International Service: Looking to Twin with Bulgarian club. Bart is working on it.

Special Events: We did nothing to celebrate our birthday and few of us will be traveling to Chicago for the big party. We should do something special… All monies raised at the parade will go to Project Courage (in addition to the $1000 already paid). Speaking of the parade. Spend $40 at Shaw’s this week and get a lb. Of hotdogs FREE. If we all do that we have ˝ our dogs. Ask your neighbors and family too. Get this week’s flyer for the coupon. Thanks for the tip, Carol!

We are still in looking for speakers…

Yours in Rotary,
Janet
