President Elect Suzanne (presiding), Bill, Candace, Walter, Jim M., Bart,
Donna, Bob P., Janet, Donn and Ben; Family of Rotary Carol Sladen; and
guests Lewis Burridge from Ripton, Vermont, Donna Green and our speaker
Herbert Rosen. We were 15 in all, which is great for lunch. But Janet had
called all and sundry to attend. President Dietrich may decide to end this
experiment. Message
to members: Alden Mitchell has returned home and is
receiving visitors. Reminder:

POB 831, Our
Meeting: For our third meeting in the new venue we all had to
fight record winds blowing over the marsh, making me worry over the
strength of the windows. President Elect Suzanne took the opportunity to
do the Pledge of Allegiance all by herself (she must like that a lot,
Dietrich please note) and Bill did the Invocation on the fly: an
unexpected request. There was no WoW, but instead we had a long discussion
on the Telephone Book, now at the printer’s at last: Should we add the
envelopes asking for a donation? Several old timers were against it, as it
takes all members to do a day of dreary work and it gives only some $500
net. We also need a proper venue and therefore it was good that Donna was
present: she gave the dates we could get the school’s assistance. Jim
presented the case in favor and Suzanne stopped the endless discussion by
volunteering President Dietrich to decide this. Bart then reported on the
mail: a thank you letter from the Wheelchair Foundation for our one chair
of Christmas and the 2 books on “John Adams in Leyden” (where this 2nd
Then Mr. Herbert Rosen introduced himself and had a
wealth of advice on money matters. He stressed that each one of us should
go through all of our insurances and trusts every 3 years, as life’s
situations change all the time. In the new venue we have a logistics
problem: we must inform our host in advance how many will be eating. There
are several solutions: 1. We guess and then we either pay more than we can
afford, or we starve. This is what we do now. 2. We charge all members for
the meal except when they inform Judy that they are NOT coming. Then we
most likely always feast. 3. We charge all members per quarter for all
meals, whether they eat it or not. This is another problem for our
President to decide upon his return. And there are the “signs”. In Rotary, Bart. ============================================ CLUB

Meeting: Our first meeting in the new venue made us all most
pleased! The Scituate Country Club gives us a large room all for
ourselves: this is space for a 100 member Club and therefore should do for
our President Dietrich’s wildest dreams. Maureen welcomed us and
explained where everything was. Then President Dietrich asked Jim McInnis
to do the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag (as he has arranged this change
of venue for us) and Robert for the Invocation. He suggested members visit
Alden, then he read the letter from Mr. Dimitrov of the Shumen Club.
Several ways of cooperation are mentioned there and a “Shumen Team”
was formed on the spot: Candace and Jack for the art, Janet for the
medical, Maryann and the Interactors for the exchange part and President
Dietrich to keep it all together. During the “Happy Bucks” Michael reported on
having been attaked by a hooded hoodlum with a knife; and he advised all
of us to always have two $100 bills in your pocket, as it makes such an
experience much more enjoyable. Then Robert reported on our Concert which takes
place this Sunday in St. Mary’s at Finally
President Dietrich presented 10 members with citations and plaques as
thanks for special services rendered to the Club during his first half
year: Maryann, Candace, Walter, Jim McInnis, Michael, Bart, Judy, Robert,
Janet and Donn/Carol.
