GUESTS: Rusty Brown, Joyce Coulter, Peter Cramer, Connie Mitchell, Kaitlin St . George, Renee Summers
It couldn’t have been a more beautiful evening to provide the perfect setting to our Club Night. We thank Rusty and Janice Brown for being the most gracious host and hostess, with their fabulous set up in the table lined pool/patio area!
Club Night also graced us with many guests, including our host, Rusty Brown and up coming speaker, Kaitlin St. George. It was wonderful to see Linda and Jack
Borror, Peter Cramer, Joyce Coulter, Connie Mitchell and Renee Summers.
Also in meeting with Kaitlin, we learned that as a teacher, she instructs Freshman History and Senior Social Responsibility at Scituate High School . She is interested in being our Rotary Liaison to the high school.
She will be returning on September 19 to be our guest speaker.
Bob Schipul led the blessing, and grills were fired up for our dinner which included the 12 lb. Coho salmon that was the club’s gift for the most participation in “Rotary Service Above Self Day” in March, for the Michael J. Kelley Memorial Freedom Trail.
As the Sturgeon Moon rose, table candles were lighted and the evening took on a very magical aura, reminiscent of a Midnight Summer’s Dream! We were refreshed in our Rotary fellowship, gave thanks for all of our guests and look forward to the Fall schedule of exciting and challenging events. Lew Burridge gave us an interesting table preview of his experiences in Vietnam , which he will be sharing with us on September 26.
Respectfully submitted in Rotary,
Sandra Schipul,
Secretary

ROTARY NEWSLETTER AUGUST 15, 2007
ATTENDANCE: D. Bilger, J. Brown, L. Burridge, B. Clark, W. Heller, B. Hurwitch, M. Johnson, J. Kelley, A. Mitchell, R. Schipul, S. Schipul, D. Snyder, B. Summers, D. Waterfield, M. Cohan
GUESTS: Linda Borror, Austin Borror- Chappell, Lars Borror-Chappell, Joe Cerra and Connie Mitchell
We had 5 guests on board tonight and all received a warm Rotary welcome from Captain Mike! It is always a pleasure to have Connie and Joe with us as well as Linda Borror and her two grandsons, Austin and Lars.
Happy Bucks and Sad Bucks highlighted the 53rd anniversary of Ben and Renee as we gave our congratulations for their special celebration. However it was a sad week for Lew as his newly arrived houseguest and long time (50 years) friend from China was rushed to the hospital with blocked coronary arteries. We wait and pray with the Burridge family for her successful surgery and quick recovery.
Save Wednesday, November 14, on the calendar for the Paul Harris Fellow Dinner in Mansfield . The keynote speaker will be the Rotary International President, Wilfrid Wilkinson and it will be a wonderful opportunity to meet him. For anyone unable to be there, we still plan to have a regular Wednesday club meeting.
Walter gave us his very poignant perspectives of life in post-war Czechoslovakia, by opening with the statement that he has always been inspired by the principals of Rotary and it’s avocation for truth, caring, sharing and conflict resolution. He told us that there were none of these values in his country as he grew up in a little town of Aussig , nestled in mountains between Dresden and Prague . Life was idyllic before the war, with cherry blossoms and vineyards draping the ravines and waterfalls of Aussig. However the perils of conflict and power destroyed the whole country as 20,000,000 people were displaced and their property burned or confiscated. Despite being a witness to such tragedy, Walter adapted well to all the changes and is now a strong advocate of the Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies which Rotary sponsors. We look forward to having more input into these future programs.
Treasurer Joe happily reported the good returns that the Pancake Breakfast brought in about 400 guests and raised over $2,000. Receipts are still coming in and everyone who pursued patrons should check with him for payments, next week.

Sandra

Bill
and Jane Coulter Wowing The Crowd!
GUESTS:
Joyce Coulter, Connie Mitchell, Jan Isbrandt, Jane Langmaid, Brad Langmaid
It
was a full house with 5 guests as the Bill Coulter Duo wowed the crowd
even without his usual Words Of Wisdom. Bill strummed the guitar and
sister Janey harmonized to lively renditions of “Just Me and My Gal,
Shine on Harvest Moon, Nobody Knows Susie, and The Chicken Song”. Their
foot stomping, hand clapping and sing along crooning naturally made the
club members rise to a standing “O”!
The
evenings’ guests included Bill’s musical sister Jane, her husband
Brad, Joyce Coulter, Connie Mitchell and Jan Isbrandt. Dave Isbrandt is
currently in Kenya
serving the Capstone Mission that our club supports in Kusumu. With our
help we allowed the children of this school to receive new locally
crafted desks and cabinets. Our donations also filled the cabinets with
books and learning materials. Photos of Dave and the classroom children
with all their new supplies were just printed from his email for all to
see.

A
Super Success would be the buzzword for our Annual Pancake Breakfast last
Saturday. 380 guests enjoyed blueberry pancakes so much that many of them
headed outside to thank the Rotarians who manned the grills and flipped
the hotcakes. Also many visitors dropped in to see Dennis Snyder’s
presentation of his MMFC, currently scheduled for Ecuador.

Donn making sure everyone has a
seat.
The
spirit of the Pancake Breakfast also encouraged many of our sponsors to
donate their services. Life Care gave all the pancake mix, much of the
syrup and butter, Bond Printing gave us the tickets and placemats and
Dunkin Donuts gave us coffee, cups and sugar! We thank all of our club
mates for their time and effort to make this year’s breakfast another
great success.
Lisa
Tompson shared with us that her nephew, CPT Jaret Ford, has been assigned
to service in Iraq
with the Apache Helicopter Unit. She would like us to remember him and his
unit with letters, cards and small gift items. A specific list and address
will be brought to our next meeting.
The
Phone Book is on schedule and we are all to be ready to volunteer to
secure renewals and new prospects when the postcards and vouchers return
to us in the upcoming weeks. Bob and Chris continue to do a great job and
we commend them.

ROTARY NEWSLETTER AUGUST 1, 2007
GUEST: J. Cerra
IN ATTENDANCE: D. Bilger, J. Brown, B. Clark, B. Coulter, C. Cramer, W. Heller, B. Hurwitch, M. Johnson, J. Kelley, K. Kelley, J. McInnes, A. Mitchell, J. Rego, C. Ryan, R. Schipul, S. Schipul, B. Summers, D. Waterfield
Captain Mike welcomed our familiar summer guest, Joe Cerra now a Floridian Rotarian, but nonetheless a charter member of our own Scituate Club. Joe revealed that he initially joined 30 years ago and has maintained perfect attendance ever since. Kudos to Joe for attending close to 1,560 Rotary gatherings! Some of them were abroad when his daughter was a Rotary Exchange Student and he visited her in Europe . Hence we have many of the international Club Flags from Germany , France , England , Ireland , Scotland and Whales, that he brought back!
It was also a welcomed treat to have newly inducted members, Bill and Diane with us. They shared the synergy of our Pancake Breakfast and stepped right up to put on Rotary aprons and assist the Club on Saturday.
Bob S. quickly presented an update to include a glossy color format for the front and back covers of the Phone Book. It was decided to spend the extra $600 on printing to receive $2000 in revenues for the ads. Renewals are being mailed out in August with postcards to all area businesses. We need your support to follow up with tardy renewals. Contacts are also necessary for the businesses that return their postcards to be new subscribers of our listings.
Donn Sladen asked to be relinquished of his duties from the Supervisory Board. His request was sadly granted as we will miss the devotion and input of our former two times President and Paul Harris Fellow. Likewise, Alden Mitchell will be sadly missed from the Board. We thank you both for your “Service Above Self”.
Last Thursday’s Harbor Cruise was and outstanding success with dinner and a spin around Spectacle Island . It also coined a new title for our seaworthy President Michael. He now trades ranks from “Bermuda Mike” to “Captain Mike”.
That means all hands on deck for next week to jam with Rockin Bill Coulter for an evening of music.
Speaking of decks, we had a deck “malfunction” last night as Joe won the draw to find the Queen of Hearts. Well, she was so elusive that Dietrich had to retrieve her from the discard pile! Joe vows to bring in multiple Bicycle decks to make sure the Queen of Hearts doesn’t disappear again.
In Rotary,
Sandra
