Meeting Highlights: March 12, 2003 More
than two dozen members and guests attended last week’s dinner to honor
founding member Al Lind. In addition to Al and his wife, Paula and her
sister Pam and nephew Tim; Alden & Connie Mitchell, Roger & Nancy
Jacobs, Bill & Joyce Coulter, Gail & Joe Goodrow, Paul &
Bobbie Welch, Don & Carol Sladen, Walter Driscoll, Dietrich Bilger,
Dave Dauphinee, Jack Borror, Susan Katz, Bart Nuboer, Janet Schmitz, Judy
Rega, Karen Kelly and Ben. A
short letter from Jed Fitzgerald to Alden & Connie was read by Alden.
He said “Thanks to chemotherapy my cancer has been diminished but I have
to start getting chemo again.” We miss you Jed. And we say a prayer for
your better health at our meetings. Not
sure if I wrote all your names down, but Happy/Sad Bucks were contributed
by Judy, Bill, Paul, Susan, Janet, Gail, Walter Heller and Ben. President
Janet notes that we are asking all members and their wives to attend the
Joint Meeting with Scituate, R.I. Rotary April 16th. Al
Lind won the raffle and picked the Queen of Hearts. He won $31. Alden,
Joe, Don, Dave and Bill delivered messages of congratulations. He was
presented a framed certificate designated Al as an Honorary Member. Janet
also presented him with a Sow the Seeds of Love pin. Paul
Welch also spoke about Al, remembering how he was always welcome by Al
when he attended our meetings in the chapter’s early days. Walter
Driscoll later spoke about the former Interact Club that our chapter
sponsored at Scituate High School when he was president. Following the
dinner, the board of directors quickly approved the selection of a current
S.H.S. junior to attend the annual conference at the University of
Wisconsin next summer. Bart is making arrangements with the school. Your
editor attended a brief service club meeting aboard the Disney Magic
cruise ship. The other three Rotarians who attended are a former district
governor from New Jersey and past presidents from Franklin, NH and
Atlanta, Georgia. No other service clubbers attended. Don’t
