Meeting Highlights:

March 12, 2003

More than two dozen members and guests attended last week’s dinner to honor founding member Al Lind. In addition to Al and his wife, Paula and her sister Pam and nephew Tim; Alden & Connie Mitchell, Roger & Nancy Jacobs, Bill & Joyce Coulter, Gail & Joe Goodrow, Paul & Bobbie Welch, Don & Carol Sladen, Walter Driscoll, Dietrich Bilger, Dave Dauphinee, Jack Borror, Susan Katz, Bart Nuboer, Janet Schmitz, Judy Rega, Karen Kelly and Ben.

A short letter from Jed Fitzgerald to Alden & Connie was read by Alden. He said “Thanks to chemotherapy my cancer has been diminished but I have to start getting chemo again.” We miss you Jed. And we say a prayer for your better health at our meetings.

Not sure if I wrote all your names down, but Happy/Sad Bucks were contributed by Judy, Bill, Paul, Susan, Janet, Gail, Walter Heller and Ben.

President Janet notes that we are asking all members and their wives to attend the Joint Meeting with Scituate, R.I. Rotary April 16th.

Al Lind won the raffle and picked the Queen of Hearts. He won $31. Alden, Joe, Don, Dave and Bill delivered messages of congratulations. He was presented a framed certificate designated Al as an Honorary Member. Janet also presented him with a Sow the Seeds of Love pin.

Paul Welch also spoke about Al, remembering how he was always welcome by Al when he attended our meetings in the chapter’s early days.

Walter Driscoll later spoke about the former Interact Club that our chapter sponsored at Scituate High School when he was president. Following the dinner, the board of directors quickly approved the selection of a current S.H.S. junior to attend the annual conference at the University of Wisconsin next summer. Bart is making arrangements with the school.

Your editor attended a brief service club meeting aboard the Disney Magic cruise ship. The other three Rotarians who attended are a former district governor from New Jersey and past presidents from Franklin, NH and Atlanta, Georgia. No other service clubbers attended.

Don’t forget to vote.
