Meeting Highlights: April 16, 2003 As our Editor/Publisher celebrates Passover, General Reserve Bart reports on the successful joint meeting with the Scituate R.I. Club. District Governor Ann Williams was present, as was Assistant District Governor Ann Brown. Excellent presentations were made on the history of our two towns. First Alden showed how early our Town started in US history, continuing through the ages to Mr. Lawson. Then the presentation on the R.I. Town showed that strangely enough the historic links between us are really there. Their forefathers emigrated out of the stifling religious atmosphere of Massachusetts into free Rhode Island, taking the name of our town with them! I understand that today much of the R.I. town consists of a water reservoir supplying 60% of the State's drinking water. It then seemed natural that Norman Saute, President Elect of the R.I. Club, spoke about the "Clean Water Project" sponsored by our District. He is Chairman of this Project. It offers clean water by supplying filters in areas where such is needed, for starters in Honduras. As the R.I. Club has contributed $1,000 to this project, it also came natural to him to ask us to do the same. We then all drank a toast with our water glasses to its success, without our President having to made any promises. PRESIDENT'S CORNER Thank you Jack, Walter, Alden & Connie, Bart, Judy, Karen & Joe, Matt & partner, Joe Cerra and Mrs. Schmitz Sr. for attending this evening. The atmosphere was excellent, so was the food and the Presidents Elect have decided that the next time should be in the fall when the leaves turn. Remember that our next meeting it is the last time you can win a bottle of Champagne from our fining S.A.A. when you bring a potential member. President Janet |
