Scituate Light Newsletter

June 4, 2003

WEEKLY NEWS /HIGHLIGHTS/COMMENTS.

Matt was back! Nice to see you again. Dietrich is away until Friday, Jack was missing, Ben had another meeting to attend outside of Scituate , Jed was missed and everyone else was accounted for. We were pleased to have Paul and Bobbi Welch with us for our program as well. We also had our first summer guest from Salem , Ohio . Frank Apicella claims we will see him again. He also comes from a small town of 15,000 but has a club of 66! We clearly have work to do.

After our usual pledge and invocation we jumped right in to the Installation of Loic Meston as our newest member. We had a huge party going on in the big room and a meeting starting at 7 immediately adjacent to our seating. In panic I opted to hold dinner until after the installation, which worked out nicely. I am sure we were more of a nuisance to the other meeting than they to us!

The installation included readings by Bill Coulter and Joe Goodrow as well as a brief presentation by the now famous Paul Welch, our retiring ADG and future DG (05-06). Loic joins us with great enthusiasm and impressive credentials, and with Rotary experience as a Graduate exchange student to New York from Brittany, France . We are all pleased with this addition to our family and look forward to his ‘strong arm’ of help and his promise of warm fellowship.

Happy and Sad Bucks offered welcomes to Loic and Matt, thanks for babysitting and thanks for not (too far away and too old), and a good vacation (we’re glad you’re back, Sue). Fines were levied for Bart and Janet being in the newspaper again. At least my name was correct this time. Good News-Bad News: There were 2 more articles today – Marshfield and Scituate Mariner’s.

I am sure that Pat Henderson suggested I not be fined for club PR back in July!! Why does no one else remember that?

Bart reported on his various club visits on the south shore and gave out copies of the Mariner story that ran last week.

This was Club Night so I quickly reviewed the BOD meeting notes:

  • Queen of Heart’s draw, 1 card only and no guest participation recorded.

  • Phonebook report: 67 of 202 renewals in, 7 new ads (Donn is our star performer!) We are approximately ½ way from “underwater” as Bart says.

  • The ChIPs  program will be offered to Scituate on Sat. Sept. 13th, we hope. Suzanne is communicating with the local Mason’s. Keep that day open – we need lots of help.

  • The club is donating $150 to Scituate ’s Job Partnership Training program.

  •  Walk to School program is speeding along at Jenkins. Janet, Bart and Walter attended the forum last night and were introduced as helpmates for making Scituate a model community.

See you next Wed. with the Harbormaster at Pier 44. Yours in Rotary,

President Janet
