Meeting Highlights: January 15, 2003 Attendance
last week to hear Chiropractor Debra Tranberg: President Janet,
treasurer Sue, secretary Ben, Sgt. at Arms Dietrich, Roger, Don, Joe
& Gail Goodrow, Alden & Connie Mitchell, Audrey, Judy and
Walter. A
note from District Governor Ann Williams that the chapters in the
district (Quincy, Brockton, south to Cape Cod and Rhode Island) have
nominated Paul Welch, now an assistant governor, to become governor in
the 100th year of RI, 2005-2006. Happy
& Sad Bucks were donated by Dietrich (wife has pneumonia), Judy (to
pick-up a Burmese dog / lost her checkbook), Walter (sold his old
station wagon), Alden (bought a tux for a wedding to be held at the
Greenwich, CT Country Club. After spending the previous day with
friends, he became ill and was unable to attend the wedding), Sue (for
Jed’s and her cousin’s illness), Gail (I missed the reason), Audrey
(planning her vacation). Fines
(all requested by Janet): Walter (interrupting Alden) and Dietrich
(arrived late). Plus several other members who failed to have the
correct answers to some of the Rotarian Puzzle’s Across and Down
questions. Several dollars were raised. Janet
won the raffle, but was unable to pick the Queen of Hearts and did not
win on the lottery ticket. Members
are asked to attend the DARE graduation at Scituate High School Tuesday,
January 28th at 7 p.m. Scituate Rotary has been the
program’s major financial sponsor since its inception. New
school superintendent Mark Mason will speak at our dinner meeting the
following evening, January 29th. Jack
Cole, who will speak February 5th, is affiliated with Law
Enforcement Against Prohibition. The organization is in favor of
legalizing drugs. Police chief Brian Stewart, State Sen. Hedlund, Rep.
Hynes, Chamber of Commerce president Claudia Olider, Supt. Mason and
other local leaders have been invited. Paul
Mitchell, former chef at the Life Care Center of the South Shore, will
again prepare the Senior Dinner to be held February 19th. Ben
Summers Greetings from the President A
week ago 12 people said they were attending the South Shore Council's
Holiday party. Wednesday night 6 people paid for dinner. Where are the
other six of you? I have reserved 12 places, so if you want to show last
minute and pay at the door that is OK. But if you just changed your mind -
remember that you committed and that number was submitted (it makes us
look bad to say 12 and show up 6). Or maybe you were away, or sick, or
just not there Wed. night. In which case, see you Wednesday in Quincy. If
anyone wants to car pool, give me a call. Let's go find out what other clubs are doing about raising money for polio eradication and what their 100th birthday projects are! YIR, Janet
