How wonderful to see President Bart return to us for the first time in many weeks. He looks fairly sturdy, although he didn’t show us any scars. But he was thrilled by the funny dog related get well cards he received---mostly from dog owners knowing his love of canines. Also coming back to us was Alden Mitchell who had no scars to show. A Club Night, so the results of Tuesday night’s Board of Director’s meeting was the agenda.

Several member’s attendance will be affected in the future. Susan Katz is moving to Vermont this year and will not be with the Club past June. Beatrice has been sick and absent for several weeks. Just as she’s feeling better comes Lent and she is previously occupied with the Church for the next 6 weeks.

Janet continues the ecstasy to have 2 new grandsons to visit (more pictures), Alden for thinking of his great grandchild ill in Maine, Joe happy for the continuing recovery of Gail, Ben for seeing his 3 grandchildren, Bart happy to be back, Bill Coulter giving credit to the prevailing members who have stuck through this membership drought, and for Sue Katz’s writing the bulletin, Carol, a dog lover of the first degree, for the improving health of Max, and for the “best husband in the world” (Donn, of course), Walter for Bart’s return, the twins and for Bill’s excellent speech on how the Bulletin holds this Club together.

Instead of Polio Plus, we are now passing the hat for the Scituate Food Pantry. We are satisfying our commitment to Polio Plus with a check from the Foundation, so we elect to collect for a local need. Then one day we’ll troop up to BJ’s with all the money and buy a ton of non-perishable’s that we’ll deliver to North Scituate . It’s a great cause, so dig deep. And it beats lugging all those cans around.

Our Board meeting Tuesday night was joined by Dietrich by conference call from his New York Office. Also, Ben, Judy, Janet, Walter and Sue were there, while Bart presided. We chose a new Foundation Trustee to replace Paula—Roger Jacobs. We set next year’s slate of officers: President: Walter Heller, Secretary: Janet Schmitz or Beatrice Hurwitch, Treasurer: Judy Rego, Sergeant At Arms: Bill Coulter. Walter, you’re a prince, and we’ll all support your efforts. We continue filming our meetings for cable when a notable night needs documenting. Loic Meston  has agreed (volunteered) to carry the torch for new members. He’s a “go to” guy, and  will do a great job when he returns from Hong Kong .

Janet had to replace our Centennial Project for Rotary’s 100th anniversary when The Train put the end to the Rails to Trails. Have you seen how the train is swallowing all that land on the Driftway? You can’t change progress where public transportation is involved. Bad or good, it’s coming to our little town. Janet is continuing the Walk to School Program and will be setting up signs to admonish motorists, ”Share The Road” with the Rotary logo affixed. Another great idea from Janet.

We’re looking into selling hot dogs at St. Patrick’s Day parade. As a fund raiser, it will be very successful since there are no other food venders at the parade. The drink venders are a multitude, doing a fine job keeping the parade goers in anti-freeze. March 18th always seems to be the coldest day of the year in Scituate .

The meal ended with a birthday cake to Rotary International for 99 years, and to the Club for 35 years. We all sang and Alden, Joe and Donn remembered the original day.
