Scituate Light Newsletter
February 4, 2004

As we sat at the Mill Wharf , we looked at the same harbor, but from a different perspective. There were no guests, just the usual hard core group. Bill Coulter led us in a prayer for the Club in it’s current transition. The restaurant was relatively quiet and it was a comfortable situation to discuss various topics among ourselves, after a formal meeting. Each member picked an entrée from the menu and the food was excellent.  It won’t be a bad thing if we    do without salad and dessert for a few months. (I’ll make it easier to get into summer   clothes  in June).

We voted yeah on a new member, Diane Spayd, innkeeper and manager at the Inn at Scituate Harbor . The next step is the fireside chat when she returns from China .

HAPPY/SAD BUCKS:  Sad is Walter for a traffic ticket, Beatrice is happy for the Bulletin, Sue Katz for a great Super bowl party with all the Linds where she won the football pool, Alden for finally using his new generator after a blackout of extended length and for a 5th great grandchild, Donn for his grandson having a baby (talk about a miracle), Judy for her coming trip to the Westminster Dog Show this Sunday. Many hopeful bucks for President Bart who’s surgery occurred today.

Also, Walter had a birthday recently, so we sang. he tried to get out of paying for age 39, but we wouldn’t let him. No lottery tickets today so the Queen of Hearts stays at $489. Good news that Gail Goodrow is home from the Life Care Center and enjoying recuperating in her own surroundings.

Alden Mitchell was kind enough to bring along a bulletin dated February 2, 1975. A step back in history, but even then they were talking about increasing the membership. “Bring a new friend every week” was their slogan. ‘If we don’t grow, we die.” That year Donn Sladen had his London Fog raincoat swiped; luckily he had his name in it. Those London Fog’s were very valuable back then. Members at that time: Roger, wine merchant, Alden, a debit man, the police chief, a funeral director, et al.

Walter  spoke about approaching the Scituate Public Health Nurses Association that is looking for structure and management in their group, and not finding it. Maybe we can create some synergy for both our groups.

AND THE WINNER IS….THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS in a real sqeeker. And everyone said they knew we would win, but in that last minute, 144,000,000  hearts stopped beating. It was an excellent game with an excellent team and a first class coach.  Let’s go for the 3rd next year, but leave Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake at home.

See you next week at the Mill Wharf where we will have 2 meals to choose from. Bring a friend to the meeting.
