WEEKLY NEWS – COMMENTS:

Present were Dietrich, Jack, Bill, Walter, Roger, Susan, Suzanne & Loic, Alden, Bart, Judy, Janet, Donn, Joe & Karen Kelley and Mr. Scott Harrington. We missed Jed, Paula and Ben (LOA).

President Janet reported on the District Assembly, where 5 of us attended, a most satisfactory number as the average for the District was 3 per Club. We also were one of 36 of the 66 Clubs awarded a Presidential Citation for having achieved certain requirements. She read a letter from Governor Ann. The Citation was proudly shown around all tables. She also reported the apology of last week’s speaker, who had not been able to find us. A card went round with best wishes to Matt in hospital. Suzanne and Dietrich reported on the negotiations to achieve a CHIPS program in Scituate , probably some Saturday in September.

MEETING HIGHLIGHTS.

Mr. Scott Harrington reported on his trip to Finland with the American Amputee Hockey Association where he had to face teams from Canada , Russia and Finland . Our team achieved a Silver Medal, which went from hand to hand. Our team won over both Finland and Russia , but Canada proved stronger. In our team of 17 players two are female. Accommodations in Finland was in a small village in the middle of nowhere, so it was an all sports event and the 2 days in Helsinki at the end were much appreciated. The Russians were all from St. Petersburg . For next year the try-out will be in October in Ann Arbor , Michigan . In the meantime Mr. Harrington plays in the ordinary Hockey League.

This international amputee Olympics is still in the start up phase. Next year’s host will be Sweden . Norway and Germany may then be present too. The longer term goal is to be part of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino , Italy , where at least 22 countries compete.

BART’S BARK:

On May 21 the South Shore Council holds its “President’s Night” where all incoming Presidents have to go. As our Program that evening is much more interesting I will be surprised if anyone else from our Club would show up. Reservations required.
