Everyone was in a great mood, and in no mood to be very business oriented. No guests, but the visiting Joe Serra was a treat to see again. Everyone was present except Donn Sladen, who is undoubtedly caring for Carol since her recent surgery. She’s due to come home from the hospital this morning, and we wish her well. Judy spoke with her on the phone, and she’s feeling pretty good.

The first report was by Bill Coulter, current senior member of the Change of Venue Committee with Walter  Heller. Bill reports that they have contacted the Barker Tavern for a space for our weekly meetings, and WE  ARE ACCEPTED! Three entrees are available for $12: 1) steak, 2) swordfish or 3) chicken. This price    does not include salad or coffee or dessert (although cookies are available). The Club then voted to accept  the Barker Tavern as our new home and raise our meeting cost to $17 ( $12 for meal +  $2.40 for tip and tax + $1 Queen of hearts + $2 sustaining membership). The Club will eat the 40 cents. This will give us a professional standing in the community and help us attract members who are generous patrons of the world.  Our first meeting there will be next week, June 2nd. A nice job, Walter and Bill.

Lou  Marciano, our District VIP, sent us a letter acknowledging our successful completion of our 3 year Polio  Plus obligation. We are a “one in a hundred club” in our district, on many levels.

HAPPY/SAD BUCKS:We were all feeling generous and loquacious and lacidasical so‘Happys” and “Sads” were voluminous. Ben started with $2 for his grandson reading the Gettysburg Address at the Memorial Day celebration in Stockbridge; Bill for his youngest daughter’s 40th, and her new job as kindergarten teacher and for Walter Heller’s professional article on his art in the South Shore Magazine; Beatrice for Joyce Coulter’s shoulder recovery and for a St. Luke’s parishioner’s death; Jack for success-fully passing his Alzheimer’s test (tough questions) to his wife’s amazement: $5 from Walter for his trip to Sea World, $59 air flight to Orlando, going to a nude beach and spending 1000 Florida miles with his grandson (Walter’s first vacation in years); Janet for the early rising painter and for Carol’s successful surgery; Joe Serra waited so long he forgot his sad buck (a good thing); Joe Goodrow added with his buck that husbands don’t remember 70% of what wives tell them; Alden reminds us about the North River Arts Association event in Marshfield Hills this weekend; Bart for Carol Sladen’s recovery. Many bucks raised for the choice of the Barker Tavern.

Judy was apologetic for having no Queen of Hearts cards or badges. We’ll have a double drawing next  week to make up for it. There is currently $37 in the fund.

Two scholarship winners, one from Milton Academy and one from Scituate High School are invited with their parents to the famous and lovely Mitchell Rose Garden on June 16th in Marshfield Hills. The weather should  be warm by then.

For next week’s meeting, TURN YOUR CAR OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND TOWARD THE BARKER TAVERN. Ed Fox will be speaking to us on our biggest project/fund raiser of the year.
