Scituate Light Newsletter
June 9, 2004

President Bart began the evening with an extended moment of silence for the passing of President Ronald Reagan.   This president was especially relevant for Bart because of his optimism and action to upgrade the nation’s standards. Bart reminded us of the man’s strengths and lasting impact. Friday was an national day of mourning.

The site for the Rotary Installation on June 30th has been selected—a cruise boat out of Plymouth . Whether  the weather is calm or stormy, we can adjust the ride to the night. We’re considering self-catering because only  liquor is available on the boat. Walter’s looking into the Victory Market array of food, so anyone with great food ideas can contact him. I vote for BJ’s desserts.

Judy Rego was not with us since she was attending the Scituate High School graduation event, representing     us for the Jared Fitzgerald scholarships. We were notified at the last minute of the D.A.R.E. graduation at     the Gates School , but were unable to change our plans for dinner at the Barker. Besides, we would hate to     miss that wonderful meal and those dessert cookies. Yum.

HAPPY/SAD BUCKS- Janet sorry for all the misinformation in the newsletter (sorry, but members cannot go      to the bar to order their drinks-must use the waitress), Alden sorry to miss last week when he was resting comfortably viewing his backyard. And also while he went to Maine for the christening of his 5th great-     grandchild (will it never end?) and for the special effects in Harry Potter 3, Ben sad to miss the next meeting, Beatriz for the beautiful  day, Sue for a good time at the North Carolina beach and the gift of Southern BBQ,    Bart for a delightful ride to Baltimore in a confined space with grandchildren, Joe for being a movie junkie and fond of all special effects, Bill  for embarrassing Sue, Walter had a great dinner at Jack Borror’s (I must have missed my invitation).

President Bart surprised us all by drawing the Queen of Hearts!!! Just when we thought we had beaten Janet’s influence over the ticket picker, up comes Bart and then money --$21—goes to the Schmitz-Nuboer household. Thanks, Bart, for drinks all around.

The rest of the meeting was devoted to starting the 2004 Phone Book season with the MAILING OF THE CONTRACTS. It always challenges our ability to put the right letters in the right envelopes, but we have a swell time. Colin (Suzanne’s son) came to assist in her absence, an excellent substitute.  Every member will be responsible for following up with their own list of advertisers.

For next week, we meet the scholarship winners and their parents in the Mitchell Rose Garden. Each member should bring an h’ordeuvre, which has turned out in previous years to be plenty of food. I will bring the paper goods and soda’s. If you wish your own brand of beverage, please feel free to do so. See you after 6:00 AND BRING YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER.
