Around The Chapter

Not much improvement in attendance at last week's meeting to hear President Janet talk about her attendance at Rotary International's conference in Barcelona.

Happy & Sad Bucks were contributed by Janet (13th wedding anniversary), Ben (48th wedding anniversary), Bart, guest Judie, Carol Sladen, Pat and Sue... Joe Cerra won the raffle and a lottery ticket... Bart said he will chair the Program Committee. Dietrich and Don will also join him... Apologies to Pat. Her grandson now weighs 4 lbs. 14oz.

The Rotary Phone Book is now with Ed Fox. A photo for the cover will probably be the Lawson Tower or Tom Lawson's seven masted schooner.

Incidentally, Pat Henderson is also a member of the board of directors. Her name has been accidentally omitted from the list at the left.

We've been asked to insert the following item: The Breast Cancer site on the Internet is not attracting enough people to click on it daily to meet its quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to the site and click on "donating a mammogram" for free (pink window in the middle.) It doesn't cost you anything. Corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate a mammogram in exchange for advertising. Here's the web site address: http://www.thebreastcancersite.com. Pass it along to all your friends.

From District Governor Ann Williams' newsletter: Challenges set by Rotary International to be completed by the 100th anniversary in 2005:

  • Fulfilling the Promise, Eradicate Polio

  • The Global Quest, 1.5million Rotarians

  • Annual Fund, $100 per member in donations

Polio Area Coordinators are about to start their visits. Invite your family and friends to our meeting when these Rotarians present the latest video and facts about the Polio Eradication Campaign and what it will take to eradicate Polio by 2005. Many clubs have noted their interest in joining the Youth Exchange Program. The upcoming seminar (noted above) is an excellent opportunity to learn so that our club can make an informed decision regarding this rewarding Rotary program. I urge all Rotarians to attend the Fall seminars...
