Around The Chapter

Paul and Bobbie Welch (Paul is the assistant District Governor) and Michael Johnson were our guests at the meeting this past Wednesday. Paul was here to install Judith Rego as the Club's newest member. Jack Borror spoke briefly before Judy was installed noting that Rotary is not a political, charitable or religious organization. We are a group of business people (or former business people). Judy was sponsored into membership by Bart Nuboer who pinned her. She is now a resident of Marshfield, a native of Scituate, has two children and two grand-children. Now manager of the main office of Scituate Federal Savings Bank, Judy has been in banking for 22 years. She was also presented a Scituate Rotary banner since her new member's kit didn't include one.

President Janet announced that several banners and auto decals have been ordered for members who do not have them. Bart was also presented a Soaring Eagle Rotary pin and a Spouse of President's pin. Unfinished business: Walter was presented his Past President's pin. Better late than never...

Happy and sad bucks were presented by Pat, Sue Katz, Bart, Jack (he attended the New York Gift Show), Dietrich, Janet and Paula.

It was announced that over $120 has already been donated for Polio Plus. Pat won the raffle and she picked the Queen of Hearts. Congratulations. She took the cash prize. Bart reported that several more checks had been received for ads in our Phone Book.

Stop the presses... we now have 22 members. 13 attended last week's meeting. Meeting our Club's fundraising goal is essential if we are to eradicate polio. The current Polio Eradication Fundraising Campaign, designed to raise $80 million, can be multiplied thanks to generous matching funds from The World Bank and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Though the number of polio cases has fallen 99% since 1988, the final 1% poses the toughest challenge. Until we reach the last child, we will never end the suffering...
